Hearing Loss

How do you know if you might benefit from a hearing aid?
  • Family or friends tell you they often have to repeat what they say to you.
  • You become frustrated because you can't clearly understand others.
  • You have trouble understanding speech on television at normal volume levels.
  • You have trouble understanding speech when background noise is present.
  • Your hearing problem embarrasses you when you meet new people.

The first step to take when considering the purchase of hearing aids is to schedule a professional hearing test.

What to expect during your hearing evaluation and consultation:

We consult with you on your lifestyle to determine your needs and expectations. The environment you live in, and your style of interaction, all figure into any hearing aid recommendation.

You will receive a comprehensive hearing evaluation, including speech understanding and other specialized tests. This is much more comprehensive than the typical "free hearing test" you may see advertised elsewhere. Testing may reveal excessive earwax, eardrum damage or other hearing-related conditions. Some hearing problems, like wax buildup, can be resolved quickly and easily. Note: we strongly reommend that you bring a family member or loved one along to your hearing test. It's always nice to get another perspective on your hearing loss and its impact on your life as you make this important decision.

The Audiologist will discuss your audiogram, explaining the degree and nature of your hearing loss. She will also go over all of your hearing aid options and answer any questions.
